PRE-PURCHASE TERMITE INSPECTION

Because termites can cause severe damage to a home, prospective buyers should always request a termite inspection to find out if there are any termites as this can escalate into an expensive and irreconcilable problem.

Termites are known as silent destroyers as they chew through wood and flooring while going undetected causing thousands of dollars in property damage which is not covered by your homeownerโ€™s insurance.

A termite inspection on a new home will focus on detecting the tell-tale signs of termite damage, as well as conditions conducive to infestations, such as cracks, crevices, and moisture. Pre-purchase termite inspection report will be issued as well as recommend a course of action or prevention.

Attractions:

  • Firewood: โ€“ stacking firewood against the house can attract termites and provide a point of entry. Keep firewood at least 20 feet away from the home and store on a raised platform at least 5 inches from the ground.
  • Gutters: โ€“ moisture attracts termites and gutters that are clogged can cause water to pool.
  • Tree Stumps: โ€“ rotting wood can create a termite infestation resulting in termites ultimately entering the home.
  • Mulch: โ€“ mulch used against the house foundation can provide food and moisture for termites.
  • Branches: โ€“ Branches and tree limbs that are in contact with the exterior of the home or roof can also provide an entry point for termites.
