Ground Spiders โ What are they and where can they be found?
Ground Spiders are commonly found dwelling underneath bark, rocks, and other objects on the ground and will only leave their homes when they need to hunt. They are nocturnal hunters and hide during the day. They can sometimes be seen inside our homes too to survive winter. They like dark, quite places.

Trapdoor Spider (Ctenizidae) creates highly camouflaged entrances to trick their prey. They rarely bite but when they do, it can be very painful. Their bites cause only minor symptoms like local pain and swelling but can sometimes cause nausea, lethargy and malaise.
Mouse Spider (Missulena) is typically found in burrows near rivers and waterways. Anti-venom for Funnel-web spider is found to be effective on Mouse Spider bit as their venom is similar to the funnel-web spiders.
Wolf Spider can be found throughout Australia. They are agile hunters that live on the ground in leaf litter or burrows. They are often found in lawns and gardens. Their bite is usually harmless with some local pain or itchiness. A person may also experience swelling, prolonged pain, dizziness, rapid pulse and nausea.
Sydney Funnel-Web with large fangs and renowned for their highly toxic and fast acting venom, Sydney funnel-web is without a doubt the deadliest spider in Australia. The venom of the male funnel-web is five times as toxic as the female funnel-web.
To stop ground spiders from coming indoors, vacuum undisturbed places and thoroughly clean possible hiding places and block entry points, seal up all places they can get in and patch wall cracks and holes.
