Most Common small cockroach is the German Cockroach (Blatella Germanica):
Features โ Thin slender body โ Light Brown with roughly two parallel black stripes on his shield, small Cockroach (about 1 cm โ 1.6cm). The smaller cockroach (nymphโs) is darker brown with black stripes on their backs. Tapered posterior abdomen. Females is also darker than males. They have wings but very rarely fly and rather run.
Appearance: They normally appear in Kitchens (food), garbage bins, under sinks (Warm 32C & damp places) & Bathrooms
Reproduction: Egg case is light in color and the Females carries around 35 young and can produce 30,000.00 young per year (Lifespan around 200 days โ 6-9 months)
Droppings โ small, dark spots (looks like specks of pepper or coffee grounds) along the tops of doors, corners of rooms and small cracks and openings into walls.
Odor: a mild โmustyโ odor.
American Cockroach
Most Common large cockroach is the American Cockroach (Periplaneta Americana):
Features โ Has a reddish brown body with a yellowish margin on his shield, large cockroach (about 4cm).Excellent flyers entering your home, commonly uses itโs wings to glide.
Appearance: Prefers outdoors but does move indoors during winter. Lives in Basements, crawling into spaces & inside or around drains.
Reproduction: Egg cases is brown but after 2 days it turns black and Females carries around 12 young and can produce about 800 young per year. (Lifespan is around 1 โ 1.5 years)
Droppings โ small, dark spots (looks like specks of pepper or coffee grounds) along the tops of doors, corners of rooms and small cracks and openings into walls. Itโs a small dropping that is blunt on the ends and have ridges on the side.
Australian Cockroach
The Australian Cockroach is a common species of Tropical cockroach. (Periplaneta Australasiae)
Features โ Reddish brown to dark brown of color with a yellow band near the head, large cockroach (about 2cm โ 3.5cm). Excellent flyers entering your home.
Appearance: The cockroach can be found in environments where it is moist, dark & warm. Externally in bark of trees, firewood piles etc & internally waterpipes, sinks, toilets etc
Reproduction: Females carries 12-30 young which require about 40 days to complete development and can produce about 30 young per year. (Lifespan 4 โ 6 months)
Droppings โ small, dark spots (looks like specks of pepper or coffee grounds). Smear marks
Oriental Cockroach
Also know as the water bug or black beetle (Blatta Orientalis)
Features: Dark brown or black in color with a glossy body. Females (2cm โ 2.7cm) and males (1.8cm โ 2.9cm) Large cockroach. Neither the male or female can fly.
Appearance: This cockroach can be found in dark moist places like, drains, damp places outdoors, sewers etc.
Reproduction: The ootheca (egg cases) can carry 16-18 eggs and up to 8 cases per year. The incubation period is about 42 โ 81 days. (Lifespan 1 โ 1.5 years)
